Sunday morning. With my huge off-diet breakfast before me, I happily flip through the Sunday New York Times Magazine. There's a photo of a gorgeous horse, and who is that in front of the horse? William Shatner?!
Did you know William Shatner breeds and shows saddlebreds? Not me! He and his wife are on the Governor's Board for the World Equestrian Games coming up! Hm. What other horse loving celebrities are there? Excuse me while I do a google search...
I found a ton of stuff! There's a whole book called People We Know and the Horses They Love. The authors, Jill Rappaport and Linda Solomon, were interviewed (sounding a bit obnoxious and full of themselves, my opinion) on the CBS Early Show, Celebrities and Their Horses.
Richard Gere. He apparently has a soft spot for appaloosas. Hey, I just remembered that scene where he AND Julia Roberts ride double in Runaway Bride!
Julia Roberts, according to InStyle magazine, enjoys racing horses around a series of plastic barrels at her New Mexico ranch, a skill she picked up during childhood. "When I was a kid the barrels were steel oil drums," she tells In Style. "My knees were always a wreck. But I was proud of them." Check out her documentary on the horses of Mongolia.
Vitto Mortensen. I read somewhere he bought the horse he road in the Lord of the Ring movies and one of the seven horses that played Hidalgo.
Christy Brinkley apparently loves cattle cutting. Joe Montana, too!
Dennis Quaid. You can see him ride in The Parent Trap. Nice seat!
Tim McGraw. He looked like a natural in Flicka.
Madonna (Although I don't see her as much of a horsewoman. I can't help feeling sorry for her horses.)
Bruce Springsteen's daughter, Jessica (not really a celebrity but close enough for me)
Tim Conway (added by my Facebook friend, Viktor)
I'm sure there's more but I've got to get to the barn before this beautiful morning gets away from me. If you can think of others please let me know in the comments!
